A Short Film

We follow the beginnings of a man experiencing burnout. Overwhelmed with the pressures and expectations of modern life in the Western world, he drowns in deadlines, social noise, family dramas, and superficial connections - numbing himself with every debauched vice available. As he reaches breaking point, he’s drawn into the unknown for answers, stripping away everything he thinks he’s meant to be.

The Process

"There was no script. I simply captured a collection of everyday events, shot as normal, in real-time with guided improvisation. I ended up with days and days worth of footage and began cutting the film as you would a documentary - finding a narrative amongst a million others. The edited film ended up being around 1000 shots in under 15 minutes. To give that context, a standard feature film ranges from 1000 - 2000 shots in 90 minutes. Hence, why this short film took 18 months to complete. And music was so important, as that’s where the emotional inspiration comes from for me - it’s how my mind pieces things together. So it was vital that I secured the rights to the artists that inspired the film."- Adrian Cabrié

The Team

The style of the film required a rapid and adaptive approach to capturing the scenes, so Adrian shot the entire film himself - to allow for that freedom and improvisation.Produced by Josephine Croft and starring one lead actor, Dushan Philips, and several extras, the film took over 18 months from concept to completion. This close-knit team worked tirelessly and through some demanding conditions to capture some incredible performances in some beautiful locations on the smallest of budgets.
